The iPhone Through the Years

A Showcase of iPhone pictures from its humble beginnings
Let’s take a look at the iPhone’s legacy through pictures.

Original iPhone: January 9, 2007
The first iPhone was declared on January 9, 2007, at Macworld in San Francisco, California and was released on June 29, 2007 in the United States. The phone was accessible in both 4GB and 8GB storage capacities, with the original 8GB iPhone for the price of $600.

Many would-be customers were enraged at the phone's expensive price tag so Apple plunged it down after several months. Then, the company offered a $100 store credit to early iPhone users who purchased the handset during its costly days.

The original iPhone was aluminum, and it had a glass front and partial black plastic back. It also had a built-in 2-megapixel rear-facing camera that did not support video-recording.

The iPhone 3G
It was July 11, 2008, when Apple released the iPhone 3G in both 8GB and 16GB storage sizes. The phone ran on AT&T's 3G data network, which was significantly faster than the EDGE data network used by the original iPhone. This 3G capability was the iPhone 3G’s claim to fame.

The second generation iPhone had a built-in, 2-megapixel rear-facing camera that was still not for video recording but was able to do so through the use of third-party apps.
However, these third-party apps could only be used if the iPhone was jailbroken.

The iPhone 3GS
Just a year after iPhone 3G came the iPhone 3GS. It was announced on June 8, 2009, and was launched in the United States on June 19, 2009. Apple released the third generation iPhone with three storage sizes which were 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB respectively.

The iPhone 3GS was better in terms of the processor used and the S in its name stood for “speed”. Using the iPhone 3GS, more tasks were accomplished at a lesser period of time.

The iPhone 4
The following year, Apple once again released a new iPhone which will be the fourth generation iteration. It was a GSM-version released on June 24, 2010, in both 16GB and 32GB models. The handset was called iPhone 4 and it was released in black.

It had been redesigned and it sported the Retina display which gave a higher and better resolution screen than its preceding models.
Also, a 3-axis gyroscope to the device was added. It also installed dual-microphone noise suppression, and a microSIM card- a smaller version of the traditional SIM  used with cellphones and smartphones.

The Verizon iPhone 4
Six months later, it was announced on January 11, 2011, that Verizon would be selling a CDMA version of the iPhone 4. The Verizon iPhone became officially available a month after, which was February 10, 2011.

The White iPhone 4
The white iPhone 4 was released on April 28, 2011 both in Verizon and AT&T

It was a huge hit among iPhone fanatics who waited long enough (roughly three months).

The iPhone 4S
After such delays, the iPhone 4S was released on October 4, 2011. It was the last phone to be made under the supervision of the iconic leader and Apple founder, Steve Jobs.

It was then called the iPhone for Steve as the legendary visionary passed away on October 6, 2011, two days after the iPhone 4S was released.

The iPhone 4S has the best improvements. It received positive reviews for its specs and it now has the following:

  4. Siri, the artificial intelligent voice command assistant
  5. Better camera of 8 megapixels and new optics
  6. High Definition Video Recording at 1080p
Apart from all these new and enhanced features, the iPhone 4S users are entitled to enjoy more than 500,000 apps available for use. It also has AirPlay and AirPrint that can be used when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

The iPhone 4S available in 64GB and on Sprint

Instead of having the iPhone 4S only in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB, the iPhone 4S is now available in 64GB size. And it is also the first iPhone ever to be available for release with Sprint Nextel.
The iPhone 4S handset comes in a 16GB version for $199, 32GB for $299, and 64GB for $399, all with a new 2-year agreement with AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint. The iPhone 4S reportedly had more than 4 million preorders just over its first weekend of release.
